The study of Andrology takes a detailed, intelligent scientist, but a sense of humor is a plus, too. Just telling people that you specialize in the study of sperm is bound to get some snickers. Joining CFS with a lengthy background in Reproductive Medicine and the Endocrine Sciences, Delphine Dor is not your average scientist. A sense of humor is just one side of Delphine. She can handle a little snickering.
That tough exterior may have begun growing up in a house full of boys. Delphine was the only female Captain on her college Roller Hockey team – surely enduring a few comments there. Next, were Triathlons and Mixed Martial Arts…and now, as she settles down as a wife and mother, Obstacle Course races, like the Hero Rush, seem to be more her speed. Did I say she could handle a little Andrology teasing?
Let’s not be coy, sperm analysis is vital in the diagnosis of infertility. With approximately 35% of infertility due to male factors, Delphine’s job as an Andrologist and Endocrine Specialist at Coastal Fertility is to help build “the big picture” for our physicians. Delphine is not only in charge of evaluating the viability of sperm through count, motility and morphology but also readies the sperm for intrauterine insemination and In-Vitro Fertilization through a highly- specialized washing process.
Even the choice of a particular washing solution can have an affect on the success of the sperm, which is why staying at the forefront of scientific studies has helped CFS gain such high success rates. Although it may only take one sperm to fertilize an egg, the importance of a dedicated Andrologist, of our own Delphine Dor, to find just the right one, has never been so evident!
