Meet Joanna Henderson, RN, BSN
Joanna is a Registered Nurse and began working as a Third Party nurse coordinator in 2021. This unique position allows her to help patients conceive using donor eggs. Originally from Long Island NY, Joanna has been an RN for four years. She always wanted a career in women’s health, specifically obstetrics. “Fertility fascinates me and I spent the latter part of my 20’s trying to understand my own fertility issues and how to solve them, knowing that I would one day want to have children of my own. I think that working in Third Party has helped me recognize that there are some incredibly altruistic individuals out there, willing to donate eggs or carry a pregnancy to help another family achieve their dreams.” Third Party is very specialized because of the patient population; many of them would not be able to conceive without the help of other individuals.
Joanna’s passion is helping her patients through their challenging fertility journey, “In third party, the dream of having a family can very easily become a reality. It does take some work on the patient side. Many patients need to understand the importance of laboratory and diagnostic testing, psychological counseling, and high risk pregnancy evaluations before moving forward with treatment. Our goal is not just to achieve a pregnancy but to achieve a healthy pregnancy. Not every transfer works the first time around. I find that these patients who experience a negative pregnancy test with a first transfer usually conceive by the second or third transfer. I try to be as supportive as possible and encourage patience but this is easier said than done, of course. Those who have decided to stop treatment do find peace in that decision as well. We are always there if they change their minds.”
Joanna is currently expecting her second child. She and her husband bought a home in Chapin, SC, and plan on raising their two boys in a small neighborhood by the lake.
