Meet Dr. Andrea Peterson
Dr. Peterson is a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialist at Coastal Fertility Specialists, joining in the fall of 2023.
Dr. Peterson is a South Carolina native who grew up in Columbia and attended the College of Charleston Honors College. She received her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society by her peers for her compassionate care to patients. At MUSC she also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, one of the most respected and revered programs in the country. Her residency was followed by a three-year fellowship specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York.
She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is board-eligible in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She is also a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). She is an active member of both the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI).
Dr. Peterson’s research focusing on healthcare disparities and the effects of language preference on intrauterine insemination outcomes has been published in Fertility and Sterility, a premier fertility journal. Language is of particular interest to her as she speaks Spanish and has Puerto Rican heritage. Her research on the effect that body mass index (BMI) has on live birth rates following a frozen-thawed euploid transfer using the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) national registry data has been submitted for publication to Fertility and Sterility. Dr. Peterson has presented at the annual meetings for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
Dr. Peterson has experienced infertility herself. Her son, Leif, was conceived via in vitro fertilization at Coastal Fertility Specialists. Becoming a mother has given her a new perspective on how impactful her work is on an individual’s life. She is passionate to help her patients grow their families and experience the joy of being a parent. She lives on Daniel Island with her husband, Lee, son, and 2 golden retrievers (Rex & Mamba). In her free time, she enjoys travel, spending time with her family, and staying active playing tennis and going on walks.
